Team 1073

1073 History

Team 1073 was established in 2003 by Neil Rosenberg and a crew of mentors and students; the team has continually grown and improved since then. We've won Rookie of the Year, the Safety Award, the Website Award, the Entrepreneurial Award, the Coopertition™ Award, and the Motorola Quality Award. Team 1073 has been a finalist at the Granite State Regional several times and even won last year. Our team and our alliance partners went on to do very well at the World Championships in Atlanta, GA.

Team 1073 meets on a regular basis during the school year. In the off-season, we engage the community by introducing Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts to robotics, visiting Math Olympiad students, hosting both FIRST LEGO League and Junior FIRST LEGO League competitions and volunteering time at community events.

It is our goal to compete the best that we can, but more importantly, to provide high school students the opportunity to learn about engineering, programming, and team management.

Below is a brief overview of past seasons.

2011 Logo Motion

ELOT on ship day Last year, robots played in a game where the robots would pick up tubes and hang them on posts. There were three levels of pegs, and each level was worth one more than the next starting at one point. At the end the robots had fifteen seconds to race to a pole and deploy minibots up a pole. This game's robot from 1073 was named ELOT, which is 1073 upside down and backwards. We had three minibots named, Squirrel, Chipmunk, and Wombat. The team competed at the BAE Systems Granite State Regional and Northeast Utilities FIRST Connecticut Regional, placing second in the regional. On the off season FIRST Team 1073 placed FIRST at Battlecry @ WPI, Mayhem in Merrimack, and at River Rage.

2010 Breakaway

Saggy, the 2010 robotIn 2010, the robots competed in a game analogous to soccer. Robots had to play offense and kick soccer balls, or play defense and block goals. With our robot, Sagittarius, and our alliance partners, Teams 1519 and 1058, we won Breakaway at the Granite State Regional in Manchester, NH. In addition, 1073 earned the Coopertition™ and Motorola Quality Awards. 1073, 1519, and 1058 all went on to place highly in the Newton Field of the World Championships in Atlanta, GA.

2009 Lunacy

Loco FocoThe 2009 game had robots collect “moon rocks” and put them in a plastic bin. This game was played on a low-friction surface called "regolith," a material meant to simulate the effects of the moon's gravity. This presented a unique challenge to our software subgroup, which had to develop a traction control system and a camera program that tracked the targets on other robots' trailers. We named our robot Loco Foco, Latin for "frictionless match." The team also attended the regional in Hartford, CT, and Battlecry in Worchester, MA, for the first time this year.

2008 Overdrive

LeviathanDespite falling short of the tournament rounds at GSR, the team made a strong show with a fast, high-torque drive train.

2007 Rack ‘n Roll

OtisThis was our strongest year before 2010. Robots had to place inflated inner tubes on a round rack to score points. An excellently designed robot, Otis, and a superb drive team brought us into the final round. The team also won the Entrepreneurial Award.

2006 Aim High

The team more than doubled in size with twenty to thirty freshmen rookies. These new members and our robot, Don't Panic, helped us into the quarter-finals.

2005 Triple Play

TaurusWe named this year's robot Taurus, after its horn-like gripping mechanism made to stack huge, 3D tic-tac-toe pieces and in homage to the previous season's robot, Scorpius. We also earned the Safety Award at competition, and the school technology teacher, Sue Hay, joined the team as head mentor.

2004 First Frenzy

ScorpiusOur robot Scorpius corralled and retrieved balls and could knock the 2x ball off the mobile goal. Our human players, who managed to win us one of the highest scoring matches at GSR, were a strong part of the team.

2003 Stack Attack

The Enforcer The team was a “Force” to be reckoned with our first season; winning the Rookie All-Star Award, Website award, and placing in the semi-finals, with our robot, Enforcer.
